Quinta Brunson Responds To Jimmy Kimmel Lying Down During Her Emmys Acceptance Speech
It was a big night for the cast of Abbott Elementary as Quinta Brunson took home an Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series.
During her acceptance speech, Jimmy Kimmel began to trend online as he lied on the ground and pretended to be "unconscious." Social media accused him of "stealing" Quinta's spotlight.
Following the backlash, Quinta says, "I know Jimmy Kimmel ... I felt like the bit didn't bother me that much, I don't know what the internet thinks," Brunson told reporters after the incident, according to a Variety video.
"Jimmy gave me my first big Late Night spot and was one of the first people to see ['Abbott Elementary']," she said. "I think in that moment I was just really happy that it was Jimmy up there. I kind of consider him one of the comedy godfathers ... so I was wrapped up in the moment."
She continued, smiling: "Tomorrow, maybe I'll be mad at him. I'm going to be on his show on Wednesday so I might punch him in the face. I don't know, we'll see what happens."
