October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Here's Everything You Should Know

Breast Cancer is known as the most common cancer among women.
According to BreastCancer.org, there have been an estimated 268,600 new cases of invasive breast cancer where women are expected to be diagnosed with and 62,930 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer.
They also reported that the death rate for women living in the United States is extremely higher than any other cancer. For women under the age of 45, this disease is more common in African- American women than white women. The rate is lower for Asian, Native-American, and Hispanic women.
Did you know that Breast Cancer does not only affect women? Studies show that men, although rare, can also be diagnosed with the disease.
In 2019, it was reported that 2,670 new cases of invasive breast cancer are expected to be diagnosed in men and that a man’s lifetime risk of breast cancer is about 1 in 883.

There are some things that you can do in order to help yourself prevent your risk of being diagnosed.
- Know your family’s history with the disease.
- Get your annual mammograms.
- Do self-checks and notice if there are any changes in your breast.
- Maintain a good weight, because obesity can put you at a higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer.
