“Jolene” was created by Parton in 1973 and became one of the greatest songs ever made according to critics. The song is inspired by a red-headed bank teller at the bank her husband regularly deposited with at the time. “Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene / I'm beggin' of you, please don't take my man,” Parton sings on the song’s chorus.

Parton hinted at a Beyonce remake of her classic song while celebrating her rap debut on the charts with Pitbull. She supported Beyonce’s journey into country music while others stalled the arrival. Parton also shared that Beyonce and her mother Tina were longtime fans of the icon.

“I’m a big fan of Beyoncé and very excited that she’s done a country album,” wrote Parton in a message on social media. “So congratulations on your Billboard Hot Country number one single. Can’t wait to hear the full album. Love, Dolly Parton.”

Promoted as Beyonce’s country music debut, Act ii: Cowboy Carter features Post Malone, Miley Cryus, Willie Nelson, and, of course, Dolly Parton. The album features new chart-topping hits “Texas Hold’Em” and “16 Carriages.”
