Burna Boy Becomes First African Act To Headline Stadiums In Trinidad, Antigua, and Jamaica
Afro Fusion superstar Burna Boy announced that he will be bringing his "Love, Damini Stadium Tour" to the Caribbean islands of Trinidad, Antigua and Jamaica this December.
The Grammy Award-winning singer will be performing at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago on Dec. 16, the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds in North Sound, Antigua, Antigua and Barbuda on Dec. 17, and Kingston, Jamaica's National Stadium on Dec. 18. This will make Burna Boy the first African artist to ever headline a stadium in these three islands. Burna Boy released his sixth studio album, Love, Damini in July and it became the highest charting Afrobeats album of all time, debuting at No. 14 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. The 19-track album features Ed Sheeran, Khalid, J Balvin, Blxst, Kehlani, Popcaan, Victony, J Hus, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo. The lead single "Last Last," which samples Toni Braxton, debuted at No. 85 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and made it to No. 1 on the Billboard Afrobeats Songs chart.
The Nigerian native is currently nominated for two Grammy Awards. Love, Damini is nominated for Best Global Music Album and his hit track "Last Last" is nominated for Best Global Music Performance. The 65th annual award show is set to air LIVE on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. Burna Boy is also nominated in the Favorite Afrobeats Artists category at the American Music Awards. This category, strictly made for Afrobeats artists, was introduced this year and the first set of nominees also includes CKay, Tems, Fireboy DML, and Wizkid. The 50th annual ceremony will be held on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2022 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.
